Emilia Jones to Star in ‘Winner’ as Whistleblower Who Exposed Russia’s Interference in 2016 Election
VARIETY – “CODA” star Emilia Jones will portray whistleblower Reality Winner in “Winner,” a dark-comedy biopic from director Susanna Fogel.
Winner, a former U.S. Air Force member and NSA contractor, served in prison after she leaked an intelligence report about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Her five and a half years behind bars is the longest sentence ever given to someone charged under the Espionage Act for leaking a government document.
Described as a “fresh take on the traditional whistleblower thriller,” the coming-of-age story “Winner” is based on Kerry Howley’s 2017 New York Magazine feature that portrays a brilliant and young misfit from Texas who finds her morals challenged while serving in the U.S. Air Force and working as a NSA contractor.

Emilia Jones, Scoot McNairy Star in ‘Fairyland’ Adaptation for American Zoetrope
THR – Coda star Emilia Jones and Scoot McNairy have nabbed lead roles in producer Sofia Coppola’s Fairyland adaptation for American Zoetrope, with director Andrew Durham having just wrapped production on his debut feature.
Coppola and American Zoetrope acquired the screen rights to Alysia Abbott’s Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father, a coming-of-age account of Abbott growing up with her single father — widowed poet and gay activist Steve Abbott — amid the AIDS epidemic in 1970s and 1980s San Francisco.
Geena Davis, Adam Lambert, Cody Fern, Bella Murphy and newcomer Nessa Dougherty round out the cast for the movie adaptation. Veteran fashion and commercial photographer Durham penned the feature, which he directed and produced along with Coppola, Megan Carlson, Siena Oberman, Greg Lauritano and Laure Sudreau.
Nicole Shipley, Roman Coppola, Michael Musante, Laure Sudreau, Alysia Abbott, Jeff Sobrato, Jesse Ozeri, Sasha Shapiro, Anton Lessine, Gale Harold, Rebecca Gang, Susie Landau, Elena Baranova, Brooks Price, Eileen Spitalny, Karen Salveson, Mike Spitalny, Ryan Hamilton, Gary Hamilton and Ying Ye are executive producing.
Arclight Films is handling worldwide sales, while ICM is taking part in securing a domestic sale.

DEADLINE – The upcoming third season of Netflix’s Locke & Key will be its last. Fans of the supernatural thriller based on the IDW comic books by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez should not fret though — they will get a proper conclusion since Season 3 was conceived as the show’s final chapter. In fact, I hear that, following the breakout success of Locke & Key‘s ten-episode first season, Netflix approached the series’ creative team with a plan for a three-season run consisting of a 10-episode second season and an eight-episode third season. That fit the vision of Locke & Key executive producers/co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill for how to tell the story and when to wrap it.
